About
Tezos is an open-source proof-of-stake blockchain with on-chain governance and formally verifiable smart contracts.
Tezos is an open-source blockchain platform backed by a global community of validators, researchers and builders. It is designed around long-term upgradability, open participation and smart contract safety, and it can adopt protocol changes through an on-chain upgrade mechanism.
Users can evaluate, propose or approve amendments through on-chain governance. Its Proof of Stake design uses less energy than proof of work, and smart contracts can use formal verification with languages such as OCaml and Michelson. Fees are paid in the native tez (XTZ) token.
