How The 30Top Evaluates and Ranks Companies
The 30Top helps businesses and consumers discover companies worth considering. Our methodology explains how we research businesses, evaluate the evidence available about their capabilities and reputation, organize companies within relevant categories, and recognize businesses that demonstrate strong performance.
Our goal is simple: make company discovery more useful, transparent, and evidence-driven.
- 1Research
- 2Verify
- 3Evaluate
- 4Rank
- 5Recognize
Built Around Evidence, Not Just Visibility
Research First
We gather information from relevant company, market, client, review, portfolio, and publicly available sources.
Evidence Matters
Companies are evaluated using available evidence rather than relying solely on promotional claims.
Transparency
We aim to make the factors behind company discovery and ranking understandable to users.
Buyer First
The methodology exists to help users make better-informed decisions — not simply to promote companies.
Why Our Methodology Matters
Choosing a company is difficult when the information you need is fragmented across search engines, company websites, social media, review platforms, directories, and word of mouth. Each source tells a partial story, and none of them are organized around the decision you are actually trying to make.
The 30Top exists to simplify that research process. Publishing our methodology lets you see:
- Why a company appears in a category
- Why companies may rank differently from one another
- What evidence is considered during evaluation
- Why rankings can change over time
- How recognition is earned rather than assigned
- How we keep published information trustworthy
We describe what our platform actually does today. Where a process depends on the information available for a given company or category, we say so rather than implying a uniform level of scrutiny across every listing.
How The 30Top Researches Companies
Research runs as a repeatable five-step workflow. Each category we publish moves through the same sequence.
- Step 1
Identify
Identify relevant companies within a service, industry, category, or location.
- Step 2
Collect
Collect relevant publicly available information, which can include:
- Services offered
- Industries served
- Locations and delivery coverage
- Company experience
- Client work and case studies
- Portfolio evidence
- Reviews and reputation
- Company website
- Public business information
- Awards and recognition
- Other relevant market signals
- Step 3
Validate
Cross-check important information where possible against the sources available to us.
- Step 4
Evaluate
Assess companies against the criteria relevant to the category being published.
- Step 5
Publish & Maintain
Publish the resulting company information and periodically update it as underlying information changes.
Company Verification
Verification and ranking answer two different questions. Verification asks “is this company and its information sufficiently credible for inclusion?” Ranking asks “how does this company compare with other eligible companies in this category?” A verified profile is not automatically a top-ranked profile.
Basic Company Validation
Confirming relevant information such as company identity, website presence, the services described, the category the company belongs in, and location where applicable.
Profile Verification
Where applicable, a company can claim its profile and provide additional business information, which may be checked against available business or public sources before the profile is marked verified.
Ongoing Accuracy
Company information changes over time. The 30Top may update, revise, or remove information when material inaccuracies are identified or reported.
Reviews & Reputation
Reviews describe what it is actually like to work with a company. On The 30Top, reviews are submitted by signed-in users through the review form on a company profile, and the rating shown on a profile is calculated only from reviews that are published on that profile — not from imported or estimated scores.
Signals we can consider when assessing reputation include:
- Client feedback
- Review volume
- Review quality and detail
- Review recency
- Source credibility
- Consistency across sources
- Evidence of an actual client relationship, where verifiable
A review is one signal — not the entire ranking. A company with fewer reviews but strong documented experience in a category can rank ahead of a company with more reviews and weaker category relevance.
Protecting the Integrity of Reviews
We aim to reduce misleading, fabricated, duplicated, or conflicted review information. Reviews are tied to a user account, and every submission moves through the same path:
- 1Review submitted or collected
- 2Information checked
- 3Potential issues identified
- 4Additional validation where possible
- 5Published, flagged, or excluded
Issues that can cause a review to be flagged, held, or excluded:
- Duplicate content
- Clearly fabricated information
- Conflicts of interest
- Misleading claims
- Suspicious submission patterns
- Inconsistent company or client information
Where a problem is identified after publication, the review can be amended or removed and the company’s rating recalculated from the remaining published reviews.
How We Evaluate Companies
Evaluation depends on the category and on what a buyer in that category is actually trying to solve. The factors below are the ones we look at; they are not equally weighted, and their relative importance varies by category.
Client Experience
Evidence of successful client work, feedback, and satisfaction.
Expertise
Relevant services, specialization, industry experience, and demonstrated capability.
Portfolio & Case Studies
Quality and relevance of documented work.
Reputation
External reputation and consistency of the information available about the company.
Market Presence
Professional online presence and visibility within the relevant market.
Service Relevance
How closely the company's actual services match the category being evaluated.
Location & Market Fit
Where relevant, whether the company serves the geographic market represented by the category.
Recognition
Relevant third-party awards or credible industry recognition may be considered as supporting evidence.
We do not publish a fixed numeric weighting for these factors, because doing so would suggest a precision the underlying evidence does not support.
How The 30Top Rankings Work
A ranking compares eligible companies within the context of one specific category. A company does not carry a single universal ranking across the whole site. Its position can depend on the service or category, the industry, the location, buyer intent, the evidence available, and how specialized the company is.
A company can be highly relevant for Web Design and considerably less relevant for Mobile App Development. Ranking is therefore contextual by design.
In practice, the order of a category page is produced from the current state of our data at the time the page is requested, so newly published evidence can be reflected quickly.
What Can Influence a Company's Ranking?
No single factor should be treated as a guarantee of a particular ranking position.
Ranking criteria may evolve as The 30Top improves its methodology and as buyer expectations change. We do not publish numerical weights.
What information we consider
Company information we may take into account includes:
- Company name
- Services
- Industries
- Locations
- Company size
- Experience
- Portfolio
- Case studies
- Client reviews
- Ratings
- Awards
- Certifications
- Website
- Public company information
- Relevant market signals
Not every field is relevant to every category, and not every available signal is used in every ranking.
Categories, Services & Locations
Why rankings can differ by category
Each category represents a different buyer need, so the same company can perform differently across two related lists. Top Web Development Companies and Top E-Commerce Development Companies may contain overlapping companies, but the evaluation context is not the same.
- Service relevance
- Experience
- Reviews
- Market fit
- Different service relevance
- Different experience
- Different buyer intent
- Different market fit
Different category ≠ identical ranking
How location can affect rankings
Location-specific rankings may consider:
- Local service availability
- Geographic presence
- Relevant market experience
- Local client experience
- Service delivery coverage
We distinguish between a company that serves a market and a company that has a physical office in that location. We do not inspect or certify physical offices; location information reflects what the company reports and what is publicly available.
Awards & Recognition
Recognition is separate from ordinary category ranking. The 30Top may recognize companies for demonstrated performance, client satisfaction, expertise, growth, or category-specific excellence, depending on the program. Recognition is only displayed when an actual award record exists for that company.
Best Rated
Recognition based on the strength and consistency of available client feedback.
Client's Choice
Recognition informed by client-reported experience within a category.
Fastest Growing
Recognition for demonstrated growth signals within a market or category.
Committed to Deliver
Recognition for evidence of consistent delivery and follow-through.
Category Recognition
Recognition tied to performance within one specific service category.
Regional Recognition
Recognition tied to a specific geographic market.
How recognition is determined
Each program defines its own criteria, and every program follows the same publication path:
- 1Eligibility
- 2Evidence review
- 3Category evaluation
- 4Recognition selection
- 5Published recognition
Every published award record carries its name, type, year, category, location where relevant, eligibility criteria, selection basis, recipient, award date, badge, and the supporting evidence behind it.

Rankings Should Reflect Evidence — Not Ad Spend
Paid products, sponsorships, advertising, and commercial relationships are not editorial proof of company quality, and we do not present them as such. Where a placement is commercial, it is labelled as sponsored so it is distinguishable from an editorial result.
Ownership disclosure: Incrementors and the30top share common ownership. Incrementors is ranked using the same published criteria as every other company, and receives no preferential placement.
| Verified / Ranking | Commercial / Sponsored | |
|---|---|---|
| Basis | Evaluation criteria and available evidence | A paid placement or commercial product |
| Purpose | Designed for buyer discovery | Designed for visibility |
| Scope | Specific to a category, service, or location | Commercial positioning |
| Presentation | Presented as a verified ranking | Labelled where a placement is paid |
Why Rankings Change
Rankings are not permanent. Category pages are built from the current state of our data, so a position reflects the evidence available at the time you view it.
- New evidence
- Re-evaluation
- Updated ranking
A ranking can change when:
- New reviews are added
- Existing reviews become less recent
- Company information changes
- Portfolio evidence changes
- Service offerings change
- Category relevance changes
- New companies become eligible
- Recognition changes
- Market information changes
- The methodology itself is improved
Research passes, verification, and category curation happen on an ongoing editorial schedule rather than continuously across the entire market.
See Something That Looks Wrong?
We want company information on The 30Top to remain useful and accurate. If you notice any of the following, tell us and we will investigate:
- Incorrect company information
- Outdated services
- Wrong location
- Incorrect review information
- Missing company information
- Incorrect recognition
- Misleading ranking information
Can Companies Update Their Information?
Yes. Companies are active participants in keeping their own information accurate — but participation affects the completeness and accuracy of a profile, not the purchase of a ranking position.
Claim your profile
Companies can claim an existing profile and take ownership of the information shown on it.
Get listed or claim →Keep information current
Once ownership is confirmed, a company can update services, industries, locations, pricing ranges, portfolio evidence, and contact details from its dashboard.
Open dashboard →Add supporting evidence
Case studies, portfolio items, certifications, and client references can be added where the profile supports those fields.
Add evidence →Raise an issue
Companies can report inaccurate profile information, review problems, or category placement issues to our team.
Contact our team →Substantive changes to a listing are reviewed before they appear publicly, and a commercial product — where one applies — is separate from editorial evaluation.
Our methodology evolves
Markets, services, buyer behaviour, technology, and the data available to us all change. We periodically refine this methodology to improve accuracy, relevance, transparency, buyer usefulness, and category-specific evaluation. When we make a material change, this page is updated to describe the current framework.
