About
Janky is an animated cat-like virtual character created by Superplastic, the US designer toy and entertainment studio founded by Paul Budnitz, who also built Kidrobot. Janky launched alongside Guggimon in 2019 as the loveable, bumbling counterpart to Guggimon's fashion-horror villain persona. Where Guggimon is narcissistic and fashion-obsessed, Janky is written as a loveable idiot who scams celebrities and tends to get run over by things. The pair's in-universe dynamic drives the storytelling across both accounts, with fans invested in their ongoing misadventures. Janky has close to one million Instagram followers and shares the Superplastic ecosystem โ which includes brands like Gucci, Mercedes-Benz and Christie's among its collaborators. Amazon Studios announced a first-look deal with Superplastic and a 20 million dollar Series A extension to develop The Janky and Guggimon Show, an animated comedy about the two characters trying to get rich and famous while leaving a trail of chaos. Investors in Superplastic include Google Ventures, Sony Japan, Kering and Animoca Brands. Janky also has his own line of vinyl collectible toys and has appeared in limited-edition fashion drops. He and Guggimon together hold over 11 million followers on TikTok under their joint account, making them one of the most commercially potent virtual character pairs in the world.
